Ok have fun with it. We are seriously doing this and will appreciate the help. If it amuses you thats fine too. BTW we have about 40 people signed up already.

You mean 40 idiots? You need to get a job or work 2 jobs and pay for your on stuff. I worked hard for everything I own and never asked for any help. I owe nothing and I will be buried owing nothing. I have seen so many of these scams over the years and I won't encourage it to anyone.

Do it the right way, Bro......Have a fund raiser or an auction and give something nice away and then more people will share their wealth.

Peace, Bro

Richard, Thanks again for your support both the donation and your kind words of support. You have defined our idea. Lots of small supporters giving a little help. No we would not turn down a big supporter if one became ava
ilable, in fact we are trying that as well. So far we haven't found anyone. Karma, well if we are scamming I have to agree, we deserve what come next!

Straycat, it's no wonder you are a stray. Calling 40 very nice people (who you don't know) idiots. I am retired, own all I have (except the house on which I am still making payments) and don't intend to go back to work now. I have raced for years and have always sought sponsers to help pay my way. It is traditional after all. Yes there other ways as you suggested and we are working on those ideas as well. We are taking parts we don't need to the local swapmeet and reinvesting those funds. Any and all suggestions are reviewed and evaluated as well as appreciated. Thanks for your input.

I'm not trying to be a prick, I just would like to know about it and the why's and how's and whats next's of your truck and team before I give you money. I'd be more interested myself in donating to a cause with a good story and ambitions than to give you money so my picture can be taped on the side of a truck along with thousands of others resembling "where's waldo" game looking for me! haha, tell us how you came to be. What your goals are. All about your team and truck. Anything and everthing.

Also, since you are on a Ranger site, you might have some luck with parts donations (or big deals on parts) from other members who have stuff laying around. Since you are running a 2.9L, maybe if you get enough donated parts you'll be 3/4 of the way to a small block ranger for real high speed runs. Such as, I've got an extra set of 302 motor mounts for a Ranger laying around that I normally would just keep but if you're serious I'll send it your way for the price of shipping.

Just a thought and some constructive criticism. Good luck!

I cannot agree more, this is really constructive criticism with some good advices, thank you very much.

Hello everyone, my name is Kay Awaad driver # 3 on the this race truck or the third scammer as some suggest.
I am the one in the team responsible for the website and computer work in general so it is my job to post all of the above and there much more to be said. I am planning on adding more about us and our back ground on the website and updates of the truck, time time time,I forget to mention I take the pics too, people (donors) pics and the truck while it is changing a bit everyday.

Here is a pic of it before we start, the day we drove it into the garage for race prep.

You can see Dick and Gregg in the pic trying to open the door.

I know it is ugly as it is, wait it's gonna get worse.

It's a work in progress, little by little, I can go on and on on the car prep but it's mainly Dick's responsibility.

How it all started? We are 3 friends that do not have much in common beside their love of racing and off roading.

I cannot speak much for Dick or Gregg but here what I know about them
Dick is a retired Mechanic, he owned his biz for 40 years and build few race cars and raced modified stock cars. Even though he is retired, he still works part time in his auto repair garage here in Mexico. He is 73 years old but as healthy as me at 43.

Gregg served in the US military and spent the rest of his career serving in the VA. He built his first race car at the age of 17, and continued racing for a long time after on road and off road in vw powered vehicles, he knows some mechanic but not like Dick who is our expert and crew chief.

That's me.
I can write a book about my story if you guys willing to listen, I will make it short. I am Egyptian American and unlike most immigrants, I did not come to America for freedom of speech or freedom of religion, I came for freedom of movement, which most of you take for grant it. I came to race, that was my goal after all attempts failed in Egypt, not only failed but also got me in so much trouble. It took me more than 10 years to overcome September 11 effects being an Egyptian who happen to carry a commercial pilot license.
I spent most of the time in Fl where I was able to get a job as a Learjet pilot and later founded a successful business (Topgun Aircraft detailng inc).
In 2008 I finally became an American citizen and it hit me that I was 40 years old and has not raced yet, I wanted to do it once before I die and that was it, I made the decision, threw all of my life as I know it out of the window, Packed my truck and sold or got rid of whatever I couldn't fit and moved west towards the desert, looking to be a racer. I landed in Las Vegas where I spend 6 month there looking for work with a race team where I can step in and hopefully climb the ranks.

To be continued , I have to go now, coming next, how I ended up in Baja and what I did since.

By the way you can be my friend on facebook, there is only one Kay Awaad.

NO PEACE, you called 40 people you don't know idiots, and called us scammers, with no proof what so ever, dude this just wrong. We will be happy to prove you wrong, but will not make a fool of you, you did already by not thinking rationally and judging things by apearance.

So anyhow, while I am in Vegas, I heard about Laughlin Desert Challenge in Nevada. I went down looking to talk to someone about a mechanic job or anything similar with a race team. Lucky me, the 1st person I talked to was Sal Fish (owner of Score International) of course I didn't have a clew who he was or what Score is all about. I told him my story and how much I want to get into racing, he was such a nice guy, he listened all the way, then gave me a radio and asked me to help manning one of the check points along the course.

Here is a pic of me with Sal last year, he became a good friend since.

At this point, I thought I got my self a job with Score, it was great, I didn't know it was only for 2 days during the race and on volunteer basis, no pay.
Oh well, I was still happy, that was the closest I ever been to racing.

I kept bugging Sal after the race to find me a full time or part time job with him,
but his staff was complete, he asked me to come down with them the following March to San Felipe, Baja to work in the 250. It was January then, and those 2 month felt like 20 years in Vegas. Came March I couldn't wait to come down with Score, I drove down 8 day early. It was the beginning of a new era to me.
The day I made it to Pete's camp and went riding my bike on the beach, I knew I was not leaving anytime soon. The beauty of the place, the desert meeting the sea was facsinating, the freedom to ride and drive anywhere was somthing I am not used to, San Felipe by all means was a perfect place to get into racing, it was something the whole town admires, men and women, old and young, they all loved racing and racers.

In my second day in San Felipe, I met my girl friend Marsha.

Life has been getting only better since.
To be continued.

We are in a small town (San Felipe, Baja, Mexico) so somethings are hard to find. Sometimes it is just not available localy and others it is the language/translation barrier working against us. To find tubing for our rollcage I spent about 6 hours on the computer to find an offroad fab shop in Mexicalli (about 2 and a half hours away). After we got there they didn't have what we needed but what fine fab work! Last years (2010) class 6 winner from the Baja 1000, his daughters prerunner and a customers 1/2 finished Ranger...WOW! He did send us to the best steel yard. Really busy and they had some of what we needed on hand. The rest we will pick up thursday. Ten hrs. driving for 80 ft. of tubing not counting the hrs on the computer. Also our idea of donations for photos has been stolen! we expected it but not this soon nor by someone local. A kerioki singer now wants $25 for a 2in X 2in on his buggy. Well with us you can get the same space for $20. Thanks again for reading about us.

i intend to support this endeavor simply because of its concept. and your running an rbv type thing.

i have money into a few other racing projects....some circle and straight tracks some offroad...

some just my time to make/fix/develop things....some many thousands of dollars along with time.

this is a fund raiser.....or no???:icon_confused:

this is a fund raiser.....or no???:icon_confused:

For this case since we don't know them.. Fund Raiser as in.....selling t-shirts or other items and the profits go toward them....you are getting something for your money. They are asking for Charity. Charity is something for.....Jerry's Kids, Meals on Wheels, Animal Shelters.

I disagree, they are selling a dream as well as a pic on their truck. I have a dream to go racing and the probability of me being able to make it to one of the BIG races is next to nil. So now I'll go in spirit as I think the spirit of these people is akin to mine.

Richard

Thanks Bobby for your kind words. Again thanks to Richard. So Stray if charity is what it takes send your $5.00 and we will accept it in that spirit, with or without the photo as you desire. BTW we are working on "T" shirts, hopefully next month.

Marketing

It's all about marketing. You haven't marketed your product.

I looked at your site. For $5.00 I can have a picture of me the size of a postage stamp stuck on the side of your truck.

Seriously. That's all I got from your website.

I clicked on the 'about' page and found that the team "consists of Gregg Bouma, Kay Awaad and Richard Bartell. 3 friends who share the love of desert and speed."

That's it.

Why would I want to put money in to that? It's a pretty web page that is asking for a handout.

As a business owner, I'd like to see the TRS logo on a truck. It doesn't necessarily have to win, it just needs to be seen. The team has to be sociable and a positive representative for the TRS logo.

I actually that it would be cool to offer contingency at a couple of races and pay some cash if the truck wins it's class. Offer the logo for free. Cash if you win. Or maybe a decreased amount for 2nd.

But you have to tell me (us) why I (we) should sponsor your truck. Marketing. You haven't done that. How do I know you guys have the experience to even get the truck off the line, or any distance at all. Where and when can I expect people to see it?

Companies are looking for opportunites to advertise. Now, I said advertise, not sponsor. Because really, that's what it is. Every company is looking for advertising to help promote their product, and the advertising is a business expense that they deduct at tax time. Businesses need as many deductions as they can get. But they don't want to just throw the money away. They want to be making a good investment as well. They want to know that the advertising is going to get seen, and show them in a good light.

You need to take another look at your approach and re-think it.

If anyone else is competing in 2012, you may want to re-read what I just wrote. It's easier to understand when you find yourself on the opposite end as the person who may be doing the sponsoring.

Thank you all for reading so far, thanks a million for the people who donated, you guys rock.
Gregg said, I made it all about Kay and forgot about Overall motorsports, so I went back and read what I wrote, oh my, sorry for all the spelling and grammar mistakes, too many and too little details in different parts of the story. I will finish quickly.
But Gregg, I had to say how our team got together and that is part of it.
Long story short, after working with Score during the Baja 250, I learned a lot about Baja racing, most important thing was, you don't have to do it all alone, they allow multiple drivers on the same car, that means you can split cost, and everything else.
Racing a car was still impossible for the lack of money, but a motorcycle might do, I already have one (see the pic above) all I need is the entry fee. I knew at 40 years old I am too old to race a motorcycle, I just had to do it. My goal was just to finish, I put a team together, planned it good and we made it. We arrived at 6th place in our class out of 16 starters and 10 finishers with minimal resources and bone stock bike.
It only made sense after that to make off roading and racing my biz since I am here in this off road paradise and it is my passion. Currently I have a garage where I fix quads and motorcycles, I also rent motorcycles for off road tours but mainly I help new people get into racing, people like me who thought it was never possible, I tell them, it is possible and maybe easier than you think. check www.mobilekayracing.com
I Knew Gregg and Dick for some time now, they helped with pitting during races.
We all wanted to get into a race car, Gregg had this ranger we are talking about here.
We made a deal, Gregg contribute the truck and Dick and I will make it race ready, it was race legal except for 3 things. Roll cage, fuel cell and seat belts, so roughly speaking that all we needed to race beside helmets and suits. Not too bad.
Gregg came up with idea of the pics while we talking money, he got it from a Nascar driver who had his fans sign his car for thousands of dollars each. It was a mixed concept, Sponsors will not like us with nothing to brag about for them, so will do the same we would do for sponsors except to keep it on personal level. Most people perceived the idea very well and as Gregg said above, it actually got taken by someone locally, I can't believe it.
Anyway, all I want to say, the opportunity to drive a race car in a big might come once in a life time if it came at all and I will not let it go.
Actually I have big dreams for this truck after the race, If we were able to attract few thousand fans/donors, the benefit will be great, not just in the fund raised but also we will be able to approach sponsors in the future considering we have that many followers.
Thank again for everything.

Right,Right, Right in every word.
The web site lacks so much, we will work on that.
Marketing!!! None of us is good at it, we are learning as we go.
Thanks for the tips.
Again we are not professionals, donations are welcome but ideas, tips like the above help us a lot too, it's a learning curve and appreciate every push.
Thanks again.

Norra just published race date change, it will start one week early.
See the attached file.
