4x4 5.0 swap with pics!

You should be able to use brackets,,if somone puts a 5.0 in a Ford and it don't have the right brackets, they will use the mustang mounts/brackets..good luck

That was in regards to the ttb drop bracket thats on the rear of my crossmember. Its kinda bulky on the 4x4s and tends to have interference issues with the rear sump on the fox body pan. As far as accessory brackets go, i think im going to run 79-93mustang brackets from CRFPERFORMANCE.COM, small 3G alt, ranger PS pump, all with March pullies.

hey im doing a 94 efi swap on my ranger but im thinking about putting a holly 4bbl and intake on it and getting rid of the efi sh%$ i have the t5 5 speed tranny from the f150 and the WB tcase? same thing you have, what for clearance did you run into with your tcase? also will a set of shorty headman headers clear the frame rail?

The headmans clear everything on the driverside, passenger side frame rail needs to be notched about 1/8-1/4in., no biggie. the t-case is contacting the top of the frame rail. im going to have to trim the top of the frame about a 1/4in due to the fact that my trans is slightly offset because one of the ears of the case is hitting it. if you still have the case out id recommend grinding that top ear out. i may have to but i dont feel like dropping that heavy SOB out by myself again.

Well today consisted of more cutting, grinding, and test fitting.

Almost have the rad support the way i want it. Id advise going against the explorer 5.0 rad due to the fact that its HUGE! hopefully there will be HUGE cooling to go along with it. its taking more fab work than i originally thought to get this sucker in there(atleast in my truck). its kissing the frame rails on both sides, the crossmember at the bottom, and the rad support at the top! Atleast it looks cool taking up the entire front of the truck haha

Other progress included sliding the trans forward some, enlarging my shifter hole in the floor pan, installing shifters(twin sticks!), making more room for my tcase which needs to scoot to the driverside some more because i discovered my trans isnt perfectly straight, and checking my rear driveshaft length. My current stock driveshaft looks like it will fit fully compressed once i slide my trans up to mate with the engine. So im going to need a driveshaft about 2inches shorter than that of a '94 longbed. any ideas?

ok good deal so it does fit then.... also what are you doing about the front driveshalf then since the tcase is bigger?

I haven't paid it much attention yet but I'm assuming it'll need to be extended. Ill let you know when I can look at it

shouldn't cost more than $100 to have a d-shaft shortened and re-balanced. i had my front one cut down for $40 (didn't have it balanced)

well i made drive shalfs before no big deal... im talking about the offset from the small tcase to the bigger tcase theres going to be a offset idk how much yet but there will be one, but i guess thats what a ujoint is for? i final got my 2.9 out today and all the wiring so im, waitng for my parts to move on also... nice build so far tho...

Gotcha, I haven't thought about the offset to much. I figure the offset will help keep the driveshaft away from the bellhousing.. An thanks

the offset of the transfer case front output wont hurt anything. the difference is minimal, the only thing you have to worry about is if it smacks anything as it moves.

Is there a different pan that fits better or is the fox still the best fitting?

To my knowledge the dual sump is still the best choice. It looks like its made for the. Ranger other than the ttb bracket being in the way if you situate your motor really low
