4x4 5.0 swap with pics!

I bought my headers from James Duff and this weekend I'm going to try and install my new motor and headers, and hopefully fire it up. I'll let you know how the headers fit. I'm doing something a little different and I hope it works. I have a 164 tooth flywheel, 5 speed NV3550 trans, and I hope the headers fit under the bell housing. The guys today at Duff said it will work.

Just reviving the thread for the heck of it! I've missed this place and i miss my truck hahahah.... Still at a halt D/T snow... I'll be 20 years old next week and i swear i've seen more snow since Christmas than i have my entire life! it's NUTS!

And for anyone who hasn't been following or just forgot:

updates soon man! ive been hanging around the classifieds trying to get a few last parts, mainly a NON-AC HEATER BOX!!! someone has to have one haha.

I've srapped the tri-y idea. i found several sources that said they did not fit with the larger bell housing unless one wanted to heavily mod them, which is more than i want to do. So for now im running a set of headman swap headers i got in the classifieds. Im going to get the test fit done this week and trim/bend as needed for fitment. Giving the Guys at NITRO PLATE a call tomorrow to get a quote on coating them then maybe send them out friday.

V8-Block is sitting in the truck as of tonight, just gotta drill mount holes when i get off thursday. got a new(er) block coming tomorrow due to the fact that the block i was originally going to use is already at .040 bore and has flat spots in the walls...so much for the rebuild the thing supposedly got before i bought it. Newer block goes to the machine shop hopefully thurs or friday for full machining, blasting, and boring if needed.

Ive finally gotten off my lasy @ss and i have the drive/motivation to finally get this thing back together so Actually progress pics later this week!

ACTUALL PROGRESS today! :yahoo::icon_rofl:

Stripped down the new(er) stock f-150 motor to the bare block, took that and the crank to the machine shop. Guy will start on it Monday, doing full machining to get everything into spec.

Called NITRO PLATE, im sending my headers out Monday assuming i get all the mock-up stuff and grinding taken care of this weekend. I believe the quote was $180 to strip them and coat them inside and out with their aluminum ceramic coating.

Ground Nubs off of motor mounts and attached them and the heads to the block. I didnt think anything about my GT-40s coming from a 351 and having larger bolt/stud holes than a 302 head...Will i be able to use my 302 headbolt kit i already have or do i have to do something different?

Motor is resting in on the crossmember while i await replies to my other thread about how i placed my engine...

Here are some pics from the day:

plenty of clearance even with the v-belt crank pulley

MASSIVE radiator that im going to tuck under the rad. support with the help of a cut-off tool:icon_thumby:

more work that needs to be taken care of by the cut-off tool

Why do people say there is no room for a mech. fuel pump? unless it'll drastically change when i drill holes and drop the mounts. its like almost a 3in. space...

no more nubs!

BW1356. Im going to have to trip about 1/4 off of a small section of my framerail because the case is so large

351w heads to a 302.............you are going to need the bolts with the shoulder from ARP.
Jegs or Summit have them.

Thanks...too bad i already bought the expensive ARP 302 headbolt kit :damnit1:

Well right now im cutting and grinding away to make the explorer 5.0 radiator fit... this thing is SNUG between the frame rails on my truck. Hopefully it'll be worth it...

Yeah im kinda worried about that mount/bracket, but hopefully my brackets will be better. im using SN95 mustang mounts(1995 mustang gt). But i still may have to sit the motor up higher in the engine bay or something.. we'll see when its time to test fit i suppose :icon_thumby:

You should be able to use brackets,,if somone puts a 5.0 in a Ford and it don't have the right brackets, they will use the mustang mounts/brackets..good luck
