does anyone know exactly what i am going to need to convert a 2003 4x4 to a 2wd? or are there any interchangeable parts from mustangs or anything?

Are you plan on turning it back into a 4wd, Bro? If not then you can remove the transfer case, front axle and sell those goodies and put some money in your pocket. This will lighten the truck a bit as well. Is it coil suspension?

nope it is gonna stay a 2wd. i am turning the truck into a street strip truck

Why don't you just trade it to someone with a 2wd. That's a pretty ridiculous swap.

x2
Or sell it and find a builder 2x.

go find a junkyard one like yours... get the front axle setup.

OR go crazy with a custom Mustang front end setup under yours. Then V8 it with matching trans, I'd suggest an upgraded rear axle to btw.

If you remove all the 4x4 stuff it would basically be like an "Edge" Ranger, still have the torsion bars and all that. It really limits you on lowering, you can new get torsion keys and crank the t-bars down, but you'll never be able to get as low as you could with a coil-sprung frontend.

You COULD get a transfer case from an All Wheel Drive Explorer and make it an All wheel drive, its been done, would make for some nice launches!

I'll trade you my truck...

The 2wd 2000 2.5 that I had, used the same LCA and brakes as the 4wd. Meaning you could retrofit T-bars to a coil sprung 2wd easily because the lower A-arm has the hex socket for the Tbar.
I think all you'd need is springs and knuckles, but I can't recall how the top of the spring was retained, so look into that.

The coil bucket is built into the frame rail..
Not the greatest picture, but this is a 2wd frame upside down, that chunk of metal in the coil pocket is a mount plate for an air bag. The whole engine crossmember and everything is different between a coil sprung 2wd and a 4wd.

I figured people wanted to go from 2WD to 4WD... You can always look around in a junkyard for a 2WD parts ranger.

Look up project rolling thunder from the show trucks on the powerblock. They made an awesome ranger build that runs like a mustang with 2 V8 swaps. Killer ride. They did a mustang suspension swap too. Didn't start with 4wd but still might be interesting.
