4bt swap -- 95 Explorer

Eeeesh. 23 gallons of diesel fuel. That's gonna be pricey.

Heck, even regular 87 is up to almost $4 here.

Diesel is going for $4 on average around here. I plan on running about 20% waste oil mixed in with the diesel. I usually fill up when I get around 1/8 of a tank or so. Lets see some math:

23 gallons.. I'll probably fill up around 20 gallons...minus 20% (waste oil)..16 gallons... X $4.00... $64 to fill it... should get me about 600 miles down the road.

I could only imagine having a diesel under the hood of my Explorer. Totally watching this thread until you finish!

As of yet, I can only imagine it also.

ya I just spent the past hour and half reading this and omg....I cant wait til its finished also...

I know. I hope to start pulling the drivetrain this weekend.

I ordered a bigger intercooler (i think the Neon intercooler is a little small for the power level I want.)
And new center caps for my '99 Cobra wheels.

:annoyed:

Seriously!?!? Please tell me your joking.
Cali already has the worst air quality, the strictest emission laws, and is the toughest place in the country to do a "legal" engine swap. That has got to be the dumbest reason to do a 4bt swap. Might as well throw a little more fuel on the hippie tree huggers fire and work on getting CARB to stop you from being allowed to do ANY modifications to a vehicle.
I personally dont think 1 vehicle is going to destroy the environment, I own a Cobra with an off-road H-pipe, a plow truck with a hollowed out cat (that has been driven all of about 1 mile in the past 6 years), and a few other non-emissions vehicles. I do think that doing something to your truck, just to piss some people off, has got to be the biggest douchebag move you can make.

Its people like you that give diesel fueled vehicles a bad name. If the hippies and yuppies bother you so much, leave California.

FYI: Black smoke = High EGTs = melted pistons ....

Black smoke also equals more power.

No. Black smoke means your engine needs work. It means it's dumping so much fuel into the cylinders that it's not burning and it's going right out the exhaust.

"rolling coal" does nothing but waste money, shorten the life of your engine, hold your engine back.
