4bt swap -- 95 Explorer

i hate all the d-bags around here that do that shit! its so annoying. i'll give a shout out to my buddies with diesels that have them built/tuned to make more power, but turning the pump up so you roll coal is so stupid!

At the most, you want a very light haze at full throttle while accelerating. That means your burning almost all the fuel you're dumping in the engine. You know youre not leaving any power on the table, and youre not wasting fuel. If you're "rolling coal", you need to re-tune that hunk-o-sh!t, or get more air into the engine.

Rep left for everyone (that I could at this time) against rolling coal.

FINALLY! someone says it! :icon_thumby:
i'm so tired of these "i gotta blow black smoke" guys... i know you'll get some... but nothing like what these guys want usually. its not about that!:annoyed:

I may not pay attention enough, but i don't see many diesels around me that puff. About the only things that puff are school buses, city buses and old busted ass looking full size trucks.

I'VE GOT A FEVAHH

AND THE ONLY PERSCRIPTION

IS MORE 4BTEXPLORER

so w/that said, where is the update and pics.
And don't say it's in limbo at the moment.

Yep blowing black soot is a waste and dumb IMHO

There is a kid next door to me that 'builds' cummins engines and every truck that leaves his shop rolls coal like nothing else. It's pretty stupid IMO.

But at the same time, the trucks that compete in the 'truck pulls' unlimeted class darken the sky with the smoke they turn out, and they make like 1500hp....

There's a perfectly good reason for that.

In a diesel most of the time, more fuel = more power = higher EGTs.
When you're building that much power, and dumping that much fuel into an engine, there is sooo much raw fuel in the exhaust that will actually cool the exhaust.

Ha, maybe that is what that kid is going for:D

f...... on the black smoke............ not only does it stink but it just aint worth it...... there is ways you can tune that thing without getting black smoke...a buddy of my has a dodge with dual turbos and a 6 speed.... that thing barely puts out any smoke... anywas enough this crap.... back to the build!!!

YEA, back to the build, WE want more pictures.

I dont have any pics today. I'll have to take some.

I got a 4406 E-shift case from a 97-98 Expedition. That will play nice with my Torque-on-Demand electronics already in the truck.

I pulled my NBX/ load warrior basket off, removed the roof rack and side rails, painted and installed the knock-off Saleen Explorer wing, and FINALLY painted my grille. (Its only been primed for about 3 years.)

I found some time to cut up a T-bird sending unit and start bending up some new pick-up and return lines. I have to braze them into the "modified" sending unit.

Quick update for you guys....

I'm picking up an '03 Mounty with a blown 4.0l, 94K miles..... $800. The body and interior is in really nice shape. I'm pulling the SOHC out of my '95 and dropping it into this truck. That will give me a truck to drive and an empty engine compartment, waiting for a diesel.

Scribing. Where did you pick up the engine from?
