This is what I think of if I think kilts.

Well, if you want us to try to play those things, go ahead and bring one or two.

This is what I think of if I think kilts.

Those kilts cost about $600, not to mention the rest of the uniform and equipment.

Too rich for my blood.

Being that my family came from the Clan Lamount, I could get one of their three tartans, but then there is the $400-$600 for a proper wool kilt.

Plus, they would hot in the summer. Scotland doesn't get as hot as it does here. So, they can get away with wearing what is basically a wool blanket year round.

Wow! This is shaping up to be a great gang. Who else is coming that I don't have on the list?
  • Curious Hound
  • Jim Oaks
  • Senornoob
  • sgtsandman
  • JoshT
  • Fastpakr
  • JohnnyO
  • PetroleumJunkie412
  • SnoRanger?
  • ????
It's exciting to see interest pick up. I hope to do a post tomorrow outlining some of the things we can do over the weekend. I have mapped out a scenic drive. There are also a few interesting sites to visit in addition to the visitor center at the bridge. Let me grab my notes and finalize them. Then you can start thinking about what activities you are interested in.
I'm pretty sure @Robert Mangrum said somewhere back there that he planned on being there.

Edit:

Just talked to Corey. So I have the go ahead. The other event was my daughter's fall break. She informed me I wasn't invited on their camping trip. Its "girls only" trip. Haha. So date doesn't really effect anything. So count me in.

I will update. But plan on booking a site Friday. Sorry I've been behind. Remodeling master bath and trying to get things wrapped up around here has been a whirlwind. I will sit down and see what I have spent this week and go from there but will for sure book a site by Friday.

I could get you wool cheaper than that... we literally throw it way.

Irritation is my specialty. :icon_thumby:

He is probably regrouping trying to find a kilt like everyone else...

I'm shopping now...

UT Kilts, best deal out there for a decent utility kilt that won't fall apart after a couple of washes. Most of the ones on amazon are made in Pakistan and you get what you paid for.

Here is a brief list of some of the sites and activities available for the weekend. I have 2 driving excursions mapped out. I could switch them between Friday and Saturday if there is demand for that. If you are interested in some of the more commercial things, you may want to check their websites ahead of time for tickets and scheduling.

I want to check out the Glade Creek Grist Mill (I posted another pic earlier). Looks cool and might make for some good photos in October.

Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Tour

I'd also like to do the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine tour. Looks to be 35-45 minutes and they say you should give yourself 2-2.5 hours "if you want to explore the entire site, which includes the museum, gift shop, and restored historical coal camp buildings" My grandfather, uncle, and cousin were Virginia coal miners. I've heard my aunt talk about living in a coal camp and my grandfather being paid in mine script, so this might give me more insight into their lives.

Thurmond WV looks interesting if you're in to abandoned towns:

Sandstone Falls

New River Gorge National Park

I'm glad you mentioned Glade Creek. That fits perfectly into the looped route for the Friday excursion.

I thought a kilt by definition left the gun unholstered?

Ya know, when I was making my reservation I noticed a part of the campground's policy I dodn't really care for.

2026 Fall Colors Campout

Can't say I'm exactly going to abide by that policy it myself. Can we at least agree that if we are going to break that policy, we can at least keep the holstered?

(Yes, I know you weren't talking about 🔫, but no reason it can't apply to that other firearms too.)

He is probably regrouping trying to find a kilt like everyone else...

Well if he doesn't get one in time, I can at lease say he'll be on good company, even if it's limited to me. I gurantee that mine won't afrrive in time, that would require that it first be pruchased, and I can gurantee that I will not be making that purchase int he forseeable future.

Sorry, had to get another word in there. Now that the thread has ben drug back onto course...
