has anyone done this or will it even fit? The reason I ask is my neighbor has a truck getting ready for the bone yard that has a nice running 460. I can get the motor for $200. Question is will it fit in a B2 and what do I need to do to get it to?

you can do it.

its not a ten minute job though....but it sure will be bad ass.

There was a guy that put a big block in a Ranger, and it even fit under the stock hood...

It can be done. There are a be tips and tricks to look for. BigBlockRanger has them covered pretty well in his writre up. If you have the ability and tools go for it. I'm in progress of building a 557 for my Ranger. With that engine and any other power maker you will need to address more than just getting the engine to fit.

Matt

Yeah basically when I get done I plan to have a B2 body and interior I have a few great 4x4 fab shops around here to get this thing where I want it.

it'll fit, a guy up by me in Milwaukee was selling one on Craigslist a stock splash with a 460 it was a pretty bad ass truck...

If I was gonna put a big block into a Ranger, I'm not sure if I'd go 4wd with it... That's just me though, if I was going to put in an engine that weighs what a big block does and use it for 4wd I'm going to put in a turbo diesel... My big block ranger would be 2wd and dropped down a good bit with some nice wide meat on the back and a 5-speed (or an auto if it was a drag truck)... That's just me though... Good luck man...

big block is last good thing for 2wd....no traction. aluminum sb stroker is best there for racing a thing that still resembles a ranger and is a driver. a stockish 460 can go in a ranger and be great for mild use and streetable.

great for a 4x4 especially a dedicated trailered rig... can be made quiet for slow stuff with gobs of low rpm torqe to make obstacles easy to clear with control. the diesel is noisy comparativly no matter what. for a driver thediesel works out with mpg benefits and low rpm torque off road.

Well, I'm thinking Ford big block + built auto tranny + 4 link rear and spooled 9" with some fat drag radials, skinnies in the front... A mean drag machine... I'm not into rock crawling and stuff(yet)...

Total Performance built one back in 87 or so. The engine was'nt stock at all. I talked to the guy about it. He told me it was fun to drive but not very practicle. It's been sold several times since they built it.

which total performance?

theres lots of bb rangers. mostly chevy though in the detroit area.

I would do some serious frame reinforcement if I were you. I don't know about a 4X4 though. A BII is a very short wheelbase for that much weight on the front. If you were to do it I would have to see about setting the motor back a few inches for better balance.

If 4x4 it would handle best if you did a SAS with leafs.
