need to change the Y pipe, VC gaskets, and put the 4.0 flywheel on

then take the y pipe out of the 95 and slide the 2.9 in:yahoo:

Have you thought about using the 4.0 electronics on the 2.9l? Might have to fab a crank sensor mount, but it might solve the wiring issue...

There is no tone ring to run the crank sensor.

Personally, I think he best bet to so research the wiring others have done for wiring the 4.0 into a 2.9 dash and reverse the process.
 
Iirc, ain't the tone ring on the the crank pulley/balancer? They could be swapped, couldn't they? :dunno:

used a 86/87 Y pipe. also have the converter

The tone ring for the 4.0 is part of the balance. I honestly do not know if it will swap onto a 2.9.
