4.0 SOHC Swap

Sounds about right.

Have them come out, cut you a copy of the key to the Ranger and do a "Parameter Reset".

Then pop one key in, count to 3, put the other in, count to 3, put the first one back in, count to three. Shut it off, count to 10, start it up.

Thanks man, I'll def give that a shot. I just figure it easier to have a locksmith come here rather than try to tow the truck anywhere. I just want to get everything off one key. Not key A to open my doors and key B to turn the truck on. Esp if they'll show up within 30 mins, I'm down for that. Just tryin to find cheapest prices now.

Yeah, I understand that.

I'm grumpy right now because I just dropped $200 on parts for my B2 and it will probably be at least a month until I get her back on the road again. And I'm doing my 3rd dead-of-winter clutch job in 5 years.

Damn, sorry to hear that, hope it all works out in the end. I THINK I'm nearly done with this 4.0 and ready to swap it on in. I just am going over everything to make sure everything is fine. I am putting a filter on my valve cover because the nipple broke off so I'm just going to JB a filter on it instead of a hose to my intake. Just did new spark plugs, pulley, exhaust gaskets, heater control valve and oil filter yesterday. Got a new belt, oil, trans fluid and valve cover gaskets to go. Oh yeah, and that hell of a wiring harness. Is there a breather valve on the fuel rail?

Wait, where did you break the nipple off? Just putting a filter over anything on the valve cover is going to cause running issues, lean codes, and a check engine light.

There may or may not be a mechanical test port on the fuel rail. Probably is since the engine came from an 02. Not sure what you mean by a "breather valve".

The nipple is gone. It's about flush with the rest of the plastic. It's located behind the oil cap. I'll go take a pic of the part in question regarding the fuel rail.

Ok, I know the part Nip you are talking to. That's the PCV breather, it runs a line over to the intake duct behind the MAF and will cause all the issues I just referenced.

I have a whole engine sitting in my garage. I'll get out there tomorrow and take a look to see what your other options might be. I think that thing comes out of the valve cover though.

Here's the piece on the fuel rail

Called the locksmith, said most I'd be looking at is $100, but he said could be around $85.00. Idk if he's AAA certified but if he is I'll use that discount too.

Yeah, you need a new valve cover. That is going to cause you some problems.

And that first pic, the fuel rail is in it, but that doesn't look like it's attached to the fuel rail. That looks more like a vac port, or a coolant passage for a heated PCV.

Can you get a wider angle?

I cant find one anywhere. My origional one had that nipple and the oil cap broken off so I bought that one as a replacement off eBay to find out the oil cap wasn't broke but the nipple was gone lol. Can I just go to a hardware store n pick up a 5/8" PVC nipple n attach it the same way I was going to with the filter?

That may work.
