4.0 SOHC Swap

That is not the fuel rail.

The fuel rail is the piece right below it that has the cap bolted on the end, inside the downward pointing arrow.

Yeah, but I'm still trying to figure out what it is.

I see the T-stat housing and coolant sensor, I see the front of the passenger side of the fuel rail, but I just can't picture the rest.

I think that is a coolant line.

Your donor is an Explorer Sport, not a full sized Explorer, isn't it? That makes a difference.

Let me look at something tomorrow on a friend's Explorer.

I'm not sure, is possible. And thanks! I got a Haynes manual but I'm just going everything I'm not finding in there

I can tell by the intake. The Sport, Sport Trac, and Ranger used a different intake from the full sized Explorer. They kept something closer to the early build intakes.

Cool. I didn't see my buddy today, so I didn't get to look at his engine and see what is hooked to that tube.

Its fine. I took off my driver valve cover and a lifter had came off but the cam on that one is in the down position. If I take the spark plugs out can I use the nut on the back of the camshaft to rotate it without damaging anything? And do they just sit on top of the springs?

Did you loose a roller or a lash adjuster? The SOHC doesn't have "lifters".

Either way you need a valve spring compressor, and I would turn the engine over by the crank bolt, not by the cam shaft.

I just happened to pop it open the the small piece on the outer side was popped out and the piece that goes across was off. I got the one back in its spot but the piece that goes across wont fit because the lobe is at the down position.

Ok, so both the roller and the adjuster were out.

The adjuster dropped back into place, even if you spin the engine and get the cam lobe at 12:00 you won't get the roller back in without compressing the spring.
