Alright guys, so my Front Crank Seal is leaking pretty profusely, i installed a new one when i swapped the motor out, but i must have not installed it correctly because it was leaking only a couple thousand miles after install. I have read that there is a Front Cover Seal Installer for this job according to my Mitchell Service Manual i have here at work, and i did not use that, just a piece of wood to make it flush, my guess is it needs to sit farther in the cover. Any clarification would be great, especially from say a Ford Tech thats done a few. Thanks guys!

Rangers had 2 different 4.0l engines
1990-2000 4.0l OHV
2001 and up 4.0l SOHC

I assume 4.0l SOHC from description

Yes, there is a tool to align timing cover with crank shaft, what happens if not aligned is that the crank shaft, in essence, is wobbling inside the seal which leaks oil, and wears it out pretty fast.

OTC 303-093 is the tool

Since this is not a cheap tool, $50+, and unless you are a full time Ford mechanic you will only need it once, lol, I would call around and see if you can rent it, same tool is used for other Ford engines.
