hello, i have a question, im getting a 302 for my 86 4x4 manual trans ranger and i think ghe 302 will work with the stock tranny, the engine in it is 2.9 v6. does anyone know what bellhousing i need to bolt them up?

Welcome to TRS :)

I wouldn't recommend it because of the power differences, pre-1990 V6 tranny was made for about 150HP, and much less torque.

You will need to check which transmission you have

Summit has an adapter for SOME Ranger models, here: https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/add-712541/overview/

You will also need a 302 bell housing

Once you have a price look at the price of a trans and transfer case from an F-150 with 302, which IMO would be money better spent for long term use

my truck has the fm-145. i found a good deal on a rebuilt 302 shortened to fit in a ranger, would i need to change the tranny and t case to swap it in?

There is no bell housing to bolt an FM145 to a 302. Also, the 302 will DESTROY that transmission without even trying. The 2.9 breaks the FM145, it doesn't stand a chance against a V8.

Yes, better to use a V8 trans and transfer case.
8.8" rear axle would also be something to think about

cut n turned d44 beams an long radius arms on their way. im thinkin ill just do more work to the 2.9, a 302 swaps gonna be over $1000 plus the engine

Fiberglass unlimited. They have been really decent for me. I havent beat them up in the rocks yet, but they have taken everything I have thrown at them so far.
