i would have to guess it bolts to those 2 threaded holes on the side, just to the right of my engine block ground cable.

I think you'll have to leave that bracket off though for this pointer to work. What is that anyway? Ain't seen one of those before.

Then you're going to need a cover too..................Got one extra, add $20 for it if you want it too.

aint that the cover tho? If its gonna involve taking the waterpump back off and the harmonic balancer just to change the cover then ill just leave it and time the engine by ear.

another timing question:

With my dist cap on, the number 1 is right around the 12oclock' position. Should the rotor be pointing to number 1 on the cap OR the number 1 spark plug? I cant rotate the dist a full 360degrees due to the vac advance unit contacting the valve cover. The cap only goes on one way.

doesnt matter where the rotor is pointing as long as its on no. 1 and you wire it to where the rotor is. and that is one fucked up timing cover you got there. ive never seen one like that in 20+ years

It should point where the #1 terminal on the cap is. Or do it as bottlegt said, but just remember you wired it that way.

alright i did it right then.

Im going to order up a HEI style dist tomorrow.

Found half of a thin washer inside the old dist...i think the other half is still inside. The dist is probabally getting shorted out. I will let u guys know when i get the HEI dist in and working.

woohoo. Made some progress. Im getting good spark now. I put the old dist back in and the old coil.

When i go to start it, it bucks really good. Flames out the headers instead of out the carb now. I just gotta play with the timing more.

:icon_rofl:Damn those mis-placed:icon_confused: washers.............................:hottubfun:

if you have the room a gm style hei dist. is the way to go......one hot wire and your in bissiness..........dont get the cheapy thou.........
