I was wondering if anyone has tried or thought of trying a stroker kit?
The Stroker Kit is forged replacement engine components (forged piston, forged connecting rods, performance piston rings, bearings, and Stroker crankshaft), which is much stronger than stock internals, and a good solid foundation, for those who intend on using boost e.g. Nos, turbo charging or supercharging, or N/A
Approx. 40 hp. :icon_twisted:

i really really hate to talk bad about the lil 3.0, because i love its reliability, but its major downfall is no power. i mean 3500 for 40 hp? kinda like pissing in the wind there. its better to start with something with more potential like a 4.0. that being said, youll likely never find an engine as reliable as the little 6. i loved mine, so much that when i sold it, i actually shed a tear.

thats a bit over the top^ but it sounds like a good idea to do it if you sc it post a thread cause most don't and it is a PITA for people trying

Honestly, if you're not doing forced induction, then the stroker doesn't make a lot of sense. There are way cheaper methods of getting 40hp. A whipple for example will generate almost double that, and usually costs less if you can find a kit somewhere. You could also get his stage 3+ heads, and box intake manifold for the cost of the stroker, and you'd actually gain more hp. That being said, if forced induction is on the "to do" list, then it's an excellent idea. And besides, I'd just like to see it done!

I agree with you guys, I first would like to say I hate to talk bad about 2.9s and 3.0s also. I grew up around bronco IIs' and Rangers' my whole life. Being born in early 87' my mom had the bronco II (and she still does) and my dad had alot rangers. getting to the point i'd just like to see a badass 3.0L with all the the above work done to it, as to put the 3.0 haters in there place. And to agree again if i had the money i would too. Love the 4.0 wish i had one, but i'm stuck with a 3.0 till I get the truck paid off! (1-1/2 more years)

if i do anything to my truck, a stroker kit and a hot cam would probably be it. the fun thing about the stroker kit is you can build it yourself. go to summitracing.com and you can buy just the connecting rods or just the cam or just the pistons. you dont have to drop 2 grand right off the bat.

Nobody that I'm aware of makes any forged 3.0 internals, other than the custom stuff offered by Tom Morana. The stuff you'd get from Summit or Jegs is just stock reproductions, not high performance, forged internals. Plus, Morana is the only place to get a stroker crank unless you have one custom machined, which would be big money. You'd almost defintley end up spending more money, and getting an inferior product by trying to piece together your own stroker kit.

As far as cams go, the only options out there for us 3.0 guys are custom regrinds, which again, are not available through any large retailer. Morana offers some, or you could look @ places like Camcraft, or Delta cams that specialize in custom cams.

Hi guys im new here but not to a ranger. I am ready to send Tom Morana a check for a short block. Id realy like to chat with someone that did this. I cant find anyone that has it and I dont want to be the first.lol thanks ranger dave

I've seen a couple of people on other forums purchase his stroker motor before, but it's been a couple of years. Haven't heard anything about it lately. If you decide to do it, please post some pics/info!

There’s a bunch of info on it on YouTube. I just watched a video that had links to kits for it and showed one making up to 350hp. Which is a respectable number in my opinion. I have a srt4 that makes 400 and it just spins unless I tune it down.

Well....just like in 2010.

Transmissions ..will need a real one....or a pile of the stockers.
