My question is, would it be easier to convert a 2wd to a 4x4 with a solid axle or would it be easier to just tear a TTB out to do an sas. I've never done one but I've got the tools. I'm just going to use the truck on the farm and muddin every now and then. And I'm going after the 83-94 rangers regular cab. Thanks!

It would be easier to tear out the TTB's and do a SAS. That way you don't have to mess with the transmission/t-case because its already there. The 83-88 body styles are dirt cheap. No reason to buy a 2wd. If you meant just the SAS part they would be just about the same. It would probably be easier to remove the TIB's than TTB.

okay thanks, ive been leanin towards the first gen anyways, would a 4 banger be able to turn the solid axle alright with 33's?

Put the right gears in it and a 2.3L can turn 35s or even 37s.

either or if you have the right trans and t/case(manual).

the front axle goes in a 2wd better b/c of the slimmer engine crossmember, but then you have to deal with t/case stuff.

Toyota's do it all the time. Every 12 year old has one.

Heck yea, I got a buddy that's wanting to sell me 35's. I've been doing some researching and it seems like the EB D44 is my best bet if I replace the shafts and u-joints. Will the stock shock towers hold up or do I have to get those f-150 ones? And do you guys know the average price of what all the steering linkages will cost?

Lol I know, the 22re is probably one of the best 4cylinders ever made, I'm just not really familiar with ford motors I'm a chevy man, but I love rangers and mustangs

Then go buy a Toyota and be like everyone else.
