2WD Mud Toys - Your Opinion?

I know that 2WD vehicles will never have the FULL capabilities of a 4x4, but I still think that 2WD's, ESPECIALLY Rangers, make great mud toys. My buddy from school has an Edge on 33's and it will go anywhere a 4x4 will. My favorite Ranger mud toys are the 1st and 2nd Generations, but I like them all at the end of the day. I know the 4x4 junkies will argue that it's pointless to even lift a 2WD, but what do you guys think?

If a 2wd will keep up with a 4wd you aren't driving the 4wd to its full potential.

It really depends on the 4x4. My buddies ranger will go more places than my powerstroke because of the weight.

Well, is it better than a stock 4x4 Ranger with a 14 inch stock tire package? Is that what you mean?? A 4x4 will go where it wants and no 2wd will be able to follow it. Steep hill climbs, rock crawling, deep dirt/sand....for example. I have seen this way too many times.

Ive had and still have both 2wd and 4x4. My locked 2wd is awesome if the front end never bottoms out or has to push mud. Anything with a hard bottom and enough clearance to the frame is more than fun mashing the pedal down and rooster tailing (no bed) all the way to the other side.

Other than that though my 2wd even with a locker wont go 70% of the places I can get my 4x4s with even just open differential. My main 4x4 trail rigs are limited slip and locked so they make the 2wd look silly in every terrain.

2wd is fun mashing the pedal down and seeing how far you can get. Everything else is a challenge and full of aggravation when you try and follow a 4x4 through the woods.

If a 2wd is keeping up with a 4x4 then the 4x4 isnt doing anything requiring 4 wheel drive.

I have drug 2wds out of fields kicking and screaming because their front wheels plugged up with mud and cornstalks and they plain and simple didn't have enough traction on the rear to slide the front wheels.

In 14 years of driving I have NEVER had a 4wd do that.

Fought the same problem with our 3 wheeler growing up, the huge unpowered front wheel would hang you every chance it could.

2wd mud toy is a waste of money.

I used to think that 2wd's had something to prove. Its no fun constantly getting pulled out of stupid situations. I had a 2wd Toyota and I thought it was just as good as a 4wd. I even ent as far as installing an Aussie locker and some 27" Interco SSR's for it. I thought I was such a stud until one day i decided to take my Toyota off road. I got stuck literally with my front tires on pavement and my rear tires in river rock. I had to call my brother to pull me out.

He came and gave me a tug with his '86 Honda CRX! No joke...I have pictures too.

After that I sold that pile and now everything I own is 4wd except my car lol

I kind of want to see the pictures of that thing getting drug out... anyway, I have a 2" lift ranger with an open diff rear. If I have a good build up before the hill I can do VERRY light mud and gravel. That's it. I drive rwd and I cant even defend it.

Not that I disagree with your logic but, I have a sick ass 2wd in the hard packed Arizona desert dirt on bfg's and... I have way to much fun with memes....
