Hey guys, i'm new here, but have had/driven/crashed and repaired Rangers my whole adult life. I've never owned anything new than a 88.:3gears:
Until I found a 1991 4.0 for sale for $250. Here's the deal: the computer has water marks all over it, suggesting that water ran down the A pillar. Before I read some threads about the water and computer, so we pull it, but I don't know what to do from here, I'm at a loss on the 2nd Gen *new to me* Ranger, what would you guys do?:icon_confused:

Seek out a computer from a 1991-1992 Explorer
and swap it out.

If you have an auto it should be easy, if a 5sp less easy to find one.

Though generally if you can have someone run a scan on it for codes
if the coputer will run the scan it's probably ok and the problem lies elsewhere.

Computer Ok now.

I cleaned out the computer with MAF cleaner and cleaned out the fuse block under the hood. I also cleaned out the MAF too as an afterthought :icon_thumby:
We seafoamed the thing and got the exhaust manifold and got a stubborn broken bolt. Plenty of persuasion w a drill, a hammer and a broken drift punch.
After cleaning all the things up, electrical wise, we fired it up and it ran like the 68,000 miles it said on the odometer. We also got the y pipe and the cat(s) hooked up to the muffler. We annoyed the neighbors last night and it even scared my dad. :icon_pepsi:
Its running real well now. But the tranny needs to be addressed. A4LD woes are aplenty now....:annoyed:
