2021 Ford Ranger FX4 TRS-3 Project Build

I have another crack in my windshield. This new 3rd crack runs from the windshield post near where the snorkel mounts up close to the lower horizontal crack and is about an inch away from intersecting it. There's a small chip on the edge of the glass where it started.

I swear I think this windshield needs trim around it to protect the edges.

Wouldn't have anything to do with the 90 mph chip and tar roads in Texas haha

There's nothing protecting the edge of the windshield, so it chips and cracks there. I feel like this us a design flaw.

I really feel like if it had a rubber trim around the edge like my '96 it wouldn't have cracks in it.

Is this the same windshield that broke in LBL?

Jeep windshields crack all the time and they just accept it as normal.

Bronco windshields are pretty susceptible as well. I seemingly got lucky.. I didn't get a chip until I was over 30k miles.. other folks have had to replace their windshields 3x in the same timeframe..

That being said.. our windshields are near vertical.. there's no beating physics. Definitely sucks that Jim's had to replace his so many times when it's at such a "better" angle

This is the windshield I got after LBL. I was going to replace it before Colorado and I didn't. Good thing because it's got a new crack since then.

The glass is more susceptible to cracking if impacted on an edge. All of my cracks are from where something is hit on the edge (corner) of the glass and sent a crack across it.

I have no intention of spending hundreds of dollars every year replacing my damn windshield. If I could put some kind of rubber edging on it like my '96 has, it should prevent me from getting any more of these cracks.

Is there room there for a press in rubber molding? Or would you have to rubber cement something to the glass?

I seem to remember there being enough room. I would check but the girlfriend is driving the shit out of it since her Escape is down for mainenance.
