Hello,

I have searched high and low for the "consensus" tap location for switched power on a 2009 Raner (I assume most gen 3 would be fairly similar, if not 2008+). I am planning on adding a Dashcam AND a USB charger for phone on this same tap, with tap kit, like seen below.

I understand that a wire could be run from battery, relay used with switched power, and a new mini-hub for new fuses. BUT... isn't there a good Fuse in the Cab to use?

I found the following Diagram and Key at https://www.autogenius.info/ford-ranger-2009-fuse-box.../

I normally go for the cigar lighter circuit first. But be aware that is probably powered all the time.

#6 for the radio would probably be ok.

if any of the “not used” locations have active connectors installed they would be good. But they are often just empty holes with no contacts.

hey Eric, thanks for response

yeah the cigarette port (left) and power port (right) on the 09 radio bezel are definitely always hot. I may need to just experiment with Fuse #6. and see how she go

5, 6, or 10.

I believe I use #5, and #10 because the fuse tap won't actually fit in the #6 slot because there's crap in the way. dash cams use negligible power, cell chargers use a tad more so if you're going to only use one circuit, use #5. If you blow up the #5 fuse you just won't have wipers, if you blow #10 you're truck will shut off.

Also be aware some fuse taps wont fit since the fuses are flush mount in the SJB. They have to have a stand off to work.

thanks dirtman, I appreciate the insights!

Always run a heavy duty dedicated circuit from the battery to power your margarita machine. They pull a lot of power.

You should really run your blender off a small independent engine....
