Ok. I just bought a 2009 ranger 2 wheel drive extended can. Im having a hard time finding another 2.3l engine to replace the giant paper weight that was in it when i bought it. 4.0l are fairly plentiful in my area. Are there any specific model years of 4.0l engines that will make the swap easier? Are there any model years that will pose problems?? Any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks guys. The ford community has always been good to me.

You'll need basically a complete donor truck not just an engine. Wiring harness and ECU need to be swapped. You'll also need the instrument cluster and keys that match the ECU from the donor. And for all that to work you'll need a 2006+ truck. The transmission from a 2.3 will not fit a 4.0 either so there's that. (Plus the 4.0 uses a slightly heavier duty transmission).
