2007 helper spring install

Hey everyone,

I have a 2007 Ranger 4x4 with a 4.0. Has an 8.8 rear end with an open different and 3.73 gears. When I bought the truck the older gentleman had removed the stock helper springs from the leaf pack so it would ride softer. I put a set of larger 265/75 R16 tires on and without the helper springs the tires will catch the lip of the fender when compressed too much. He gave me the springs when I bought the truck and I want to reinstall them but I'm not sure exactly how to go about it. Can anyone give me some advice? I tried searching, but all I could find was aftermarket helper springs not how to reinstall stock one.

Are you referring to the stock overload leaf? (it's almost not quite flat, and about half-inch thick in the middle?)

If so, it goes at the very bottom of the spring pack, longer end faces to the rear.

Pretty straightforward procedure...
Remove axle u-bolts, lower axle away from spring (or remove the spring from vehicle), remove spring centerpin bolt (keeping the leaves clamped together with a c-clamp), insert overload leaf, then reassemble in reverse order.

It's not really what you were asking, but personally I'd sell them and buy timbrins.

Thanks 4x4, that's the one I was referring to. I wasn't sure how they oriented, but that answers it. Can I reuse the u bolts, or should I get new ones? Also, will 2 clamps per side be enough or do I need several clamps per side before removing the center pin?

Those aren't meant to replace the stock overload leaf are they? This truck sits considerably lower in the back than my last identical 07 Ranger, and I just want it back to stock hieght/stiffness.

No, it replaces the stock bump stops adding more load support only when you need it.

Does it effects the flex at all? I don't ever haul anything real heavy.

You can reuse the U-bolts no problem.

One c-clamp somewhere near the middle of the spring pack should be enough to keep the leaves together (of course two will work on it too).

One last question, the over load leaf has a slight arch to it, do the arches opose each other or fit together? Essentially, do they fit together like this )( or like this (( ?
