2006+ tail lights

Will 2006+ tail lights fit on my stepside 1999 ford ranger? If not wich ones will? Got a broken tail and figured I would get rid of the yellow and get two new ones.

any tail from 93-10 will fit.
00+ tails went from 3 bulb to 2 bulb system
i have 03 tails on mine. i did the 3 to 2 conversion. if u have the trailer lights connector under the rear bumper(driver side) u can do very easily

Ok cool Thanks. I do have the trailer light conector. Is there any different between the 06 tails with stx and the ones w/o stx?

Almost positive the 06+ TX ones are completely different. They're actually the same lights used on the B-Series trucks. You want non-STX lights.

Ok so non stx. So pretty much any newer tail light I get I will have to do the three to two bulb conversion? I looked in the tech library and read the article, but I'd rather not have to buy the trailer converter kit.

correct, any 2000 and up tail light will be a 2 color, 2 bulb light (except stx)

i did the 06+ tails on my 94' b4 i flipped it & broke them & i kept the 3 bulb system,the bottom spot on the 06 tails has reflectors in it for the turn signals so i use a hole saw & a file to file out the grooves for the light to lock in.

yeah any 00 u use will nedd a 2 bulb conversion.
and stx ones wont fit.

if u need help with the conversion using the trailer connector let me know, i did it on mine without buying any more stuff. and works fine

Is it possible to take a hair dryer / heat gun to the tail lights, take the lens off the 06 housing and put it on the 99 housing?

propably yes, but when u have the turn ligths along with the stop lights the turn will be barely seen.
thats because they wont have any divisions between em.
also the 99 has the reverse on the bottom, and the 06 on the middle.
maybe u could install the turn on the bottom socket and it would shine through the reflector.
best option is to convert to 2 bulb setup or go with 00 lights if u dont like the amber turn

the 08' tails i have now have a seperate reflector & show up fine,i hate wiring though so id rather cut holes in it.

'06 tails FTW! Lol. I know this is a old thread but I recently bought some '06 tails for '99 and instead of converting it from the 3 bulb set-up to 2 bulb, I just dremeled a hole on the bottom for the signal light (like krazykracker did). Here's a short vid I did:



The brake and reverse lights are much brighter than my old lights but the signal light is kinda fuzzy...you can see it, but I've been told its dim.

You should do the mirror swap too. The square ones look much better in my opinion.
