Was switching tires on my ranger and noticed some play in the rear axles! With the truck up in the air and i grab the tire and pull outward there is some play and clunking sound.. here is video.. both sides does this , driver side seems worse.. is this normal?? im pulling and pushing in and out...

there is at least 1/16" and sometimes more in-and-out play on the rear axle shafts/wheels.
the inner parts that cause the play are constantly bathed in the gear oil so unless something is drastically wrong the wear won't increase.
drastically wrong means you'll have other problems like leaking and nasty noises.

pushing in the axle shaft hits the differential pin, pulling out the shaft pushes the retaining C clip into the side gear.

I say if you don't find shavings in the diff cover you're good.
