My wife's Sunfire's Speedometer and Tach are no longer working. The tach as you accelerate the needle goes up, but when you push the clutch the rpm's drop but the gauge does not. So when you start accelerating again the needle goes up from where it was stuck, so by the time you are at highway speed in 5th gear the tach gauge is pegged and gets in the way of the speedometer.
The only way I have found to reset this is to have the car off, not press the clutch in, and cycle the key back and fourth to the start position until it reads 0 again, by not pressing the clutch of course keeps it from starting.
I was able to live with that, but now the speedometer is doing the same thing not wanting to go back down as you slow down, and not knowing how fast you are going is kind of annoying. Going 100 mph in 1st is like a WTF moment.
If someone can help point me to an answer on if this is a computer issue, or what, I don't know.
Here are the specs of the car.
2005 Pontiac Sunfire, with the "Sport" package
2.2L Ecotec
5 Speed Manual Transmission
