Hello everyone! I am working on my son’s 05 ranger. We did the 5 speed conversion, but I don’t have the manual transmission/engine wiring harness…. I believe the 03 harness won’t work. So my knowledge of the PATS system is limited to say the least. I have read somewhere that the 05 rangers (some and not all) don’t have pats and that proves to be true with this one.
What I have done so far is…. Taken the auto transmission out since it was broken without any chance of rebuild. Then I installed a manual transmission and transfer case from a 2002(?) fx4 off-road. I tried to get it at least running with the non PATS 05 pcm and absolutely nothing happened. That being said, I was curious if anyone has encountered anything similar to this? What do you do to defeat/bypass the pats if it’s even possible. I do have a pcm, (from a different project) and keys from a 2004 with a 5 speed but it has the pats …. What is the next step? I’m at a loss
Would the 02/03 harness work on the 05 engine/transmission? Any help would be greatly appreciated and if more info is needed please ask….

What do you mean by nothing happened? What did you try? The manual transmission only has a reverse light switch. How have you handled the Park/Neutral switch (or Digital Transmission Range Sensor) from the automatic?. Is the clutch switch plugged in or did you leave the jumper in place?

Hopefully I haven't asked anything that doesn't make sense given your year...

So for some reason I just looked and there are no provisions for the clutch switch at all… I’ll have to figure that out… what I mean by nothing happened, I mean that it gets power to the truck, but nothing happens when I turn the key. I’m going to be doing a little more digging today and hopefully figure some stuff out ….

I wouldn't worry about the clutch switch right now. It worked before and the only thing you changed was the transmission. I'd wager if you can convince it you're in park or neutral that it'll start. Probably as simple as jumpering a single pair of wires.

That looks pretty complicated. IDK if I wouldn't try to take the original DTRS and plug it in and set it to the park position to start.
Just remember if you do that you won't have any safety to prevent starting in gear. So not a long term solution.

Another problem I see, If you jump the DTRS so it thinks the transmission is in park, you won't be able to get more than 3,000 rpm out of the engine.

Wonder if it would have problems if you set the start to P/N, the "Four Wheel Drive" to neutral, and the other to drive? That diagram doesn't look like it has any of those four pins connected for drive tho. That means to make the computer think it's in drive you'd need the 270Ohm resistor between TR3A and Signal Return. 2nd might be easier. Just connect TR3A and TR2 directly to signal return. No resistor needed.

depends on actual parameters in pcm.

some of the x pcms dont have n limiters.
