I actually test drove the truck and the interior has about 20 cigarette burns on both the seat AND the roof (from what I can tell). Ya, roof? wtf. There's a significant amount of what appears to my untrained eye to be cosmetic rust under the vehicle. Popping the hood reveals what appears to be a virtually unused engine - the dam thing looks new to me.

I get the impression that the only thing this truck was used for was off-roading... and the driver smoked alot while doing so. hehe.

Unfortunately, there's was much 4x4 testing I could do downtown, but I did find the breaks a significantly weaker than my 6 month old regular cab 2x4... which I guess is to be expected from a heavier, 8 year old truck.

Anyhoo, I'm still thinking this might be a really good deal... but it seems too good to be true. If I took it down to my local Mazda dealer, would a comprehensive inspection be able to tell if there's any major problems?

No, You could get that a lot cheaper private party. My truck's engine looked pristine when I bought it but that didn't mean there wasn't anything wrong with it... That mazda is a clean looking truck though...
