2000 Ranger XLT - Tachometer

Automatic Transmission... everything seems to function fine, except the tach... It will idle at 2k and then jump to 7k (motor of course doesnt rev that high, just the needle moving) and then down to 5k for example... Up down, up down... I can drive down the road and then all of the sudden have the tach shoot up. I'll tap the dashboard and the tach will drop down... Thoughts on fixes? Regular occurrence?
 
Oof. I wish. Not in the budget right now. I do miss having a manual though.
 
just gave away a FM146/1350 combo in a trade. If you look around, they can be found for 50-150. Most of us have parts trucks we'll sell off of as well. Lucky you, youre in a junkyarders heaven there, so used part prices are probably obscene.
 
Nvm, just noticed the 2000 MY. Fm146 not an option if sohc. You'll maul it.
 
The FM146 isn't ideal behind a go kart...
