I am in need of a set of headers ( or exhaust set up) that will fit into my 2000 Ranger 289 swap. My problem is the steering shaft presents a clearance problem. Any information or advise would be appreciated.

There only were three header options for the 302 in the 98+ 4x4 Rangers. Ford Racing (long out of production), OBX (China knock-off of the TM headers), and Torque Monster headers (expect a 3-14 month wait with minimal contact). I don’t know if any of those can be used with a 289.

With a 2wd, all you have to worry about is clearing the steering shaft so I’ve been told that with those there are other possible header options. The problem with most options on a 4x4 is that it gets in the way of the front driveshaft.

I’m just curious, why the 289 instead of the 302? There must be a story to that.
