Was working on the truck and it starts up and shifts in and out of all gears fine. Goes into park, revers and drive with no problems.

the problem comes when I go to turn the key all the way back, turning off the vehicle and trying to get the key out. The ignition cylinder will not turn all the way to the off position in order to allow the key to be taken out.

there is not a switch on the side to allow it to turn like my ‘99 had either. The symptom is the same as if the vehicle were in drive and you turned the key off and it will not allow you to turn it all the way back. But this is doing it in park. I have taken the cylinder out and turned the key that way, but this leaves the vehicle in the on position and all accessories running.

Any ideas?

Is the steering wheel lock pin working, it needs to slide up and lock the steering wheel when you turn the key to OFF
Try moving the steering wheel a bit to see if that's the issue, it should be spring loaded so you can turn the key to OFF but maybe that's broken

The cylinder will not come back in order for the wheel to lock in place. It will not turn backward past the ACC position.

????

ACC - OFF/LOCK - RUN - START

But some years also did this

ACC - LOCK - OFF - RUN - START
So 5 positions

Those are the 4 or 5 position of ignition switch under the steering column and for the ignition cylinder rotation

Key can only be removed in the OFF or LOCK position if it has LOCK

Steering wheel pin moves up to lock the steering wheel when you turn key from RUN to OFF/LOCK, and steering wheel stays locked when you turn key from OFF/LOCK to ACC

Simplified diagram of whats inside the column: https://blazerforum.com/forum/attac...-2012-03-08_031156_steeringcollum_diagram.jpg

Ok but none of this explains why the ignition will not return to the off position in order for me to pull the key out. I have tried every single thing I can think of to get it out short of just breaking the pins inside the ignition cylinder.

i have turned the steering wheel all over the place, and wiggled everything I can think of and nothing will allow it to turn backwards to the off position.

I’ll have to get a video of what it’s doing so it could easily be explained.

Here is a short video of what the problem is. Any ideas?

try lifting up on the shifter (pushing it further into park) while turning the key towards the off position

Ok figured out what it was. Have parts enroute to fix it. The shifter tube and pin were not engaging the ignition clip to allow the ignition to turn all the way.
