2 Cracked heads. I think the grime on the head is actually head gasket repair.

Was that a spark plug I saw in the one pic....wow!

Yeah, there were actually 2 plugs like that. I think its from the heads being cracked and I have a feeling they put head gasket sealant in the coolant. that's my best guess. But they were gnarly for sure. Excited to get it back together and share my learning (there are a lot of posts about cracked heads, but not much for how to fix's).

Pretty shitty welds and cleanup on those headers.
Nice job making them fit.

Its suppose to be GREY

LOL, nice job

Yeah, I've done eBay headers for a lot of my projects. they aren't the prettiest, but gosh dang are they cheap.

These ones also fit very well. very minor hammering required.

My old manifolds literally had every bolt stuck in them. I wasn't about to fight with that for hours.

It was more of a joke, the 4.0l OHVs usually had grey valve covers

But Ford blue or Chevy orange is fine, whatever "floats your boat", as they say, whoever "they" are

As long as the Ranger itself is painted RED all is good, all other colors are just primer until the final RED coat :)

He's only saying that because so many of the Rangers are red.

Only the FINISHED Rangers are RED, as said, the rest are just Primed and waiting for their final coat of RED

Yes, White is a good primer base color so its ready for a final coat, :)

Nice looking Ranger there, 4.0l regular cabs were not that common

Then why is my unfinished from the factory Ranger red?
