i have a lifted 90 ranger 2wd with a 2.3 and manual trans. i stumbled across a 89 in the junkyard that was 2.3 4x4 manual trans. picked up the trans for 80 bux. i just did a brand new clutch in my truck a few 100 miles ago and was wondering if the clutch is the same for 2wd and 4x4 trans. is there anything ill need to do im forgetting? just swap it in with the 4x4 rear drive shaft and should be good to go? also wondering if i run the 1350 manual tcase can i run it with out a front driveshaft in place for a while, or with it being a slip yolk will all my fluid be flying out. i planned on getting the trans and tcase in and still be driveable before i get around to doin the solid front axle.
please help
thank you

If you are trying to make your 2wd Ranger a 4wd you will have to do ALOT more than just trans/t-case/front beam swap... It's alot easier just to get a 4wd Ranger... If you still wanna do it, I'd get the whole 4wd truck, you'll need the engine crossmember, the front 4wd beams, passenger side beam bracket, 4wd transmission, or swap out the tailpiece, t-case, driveshafts (front and rear) and steering system... 2wd to 4wd is easy on Explorers and BII's Rangers are hard...

i dont know about on the rangers but on the old cheap cherokees if you removed the front driveshaft you had no parking brake from your tranny to the wheels, all i can say is wait and do it all at once just to keep from running into random problems.

The parking brake won't be any issue... It's just going to be ALOT of work... If you do it though, you should do a write up on here, I haven't seen anyone do a 2wd to 4wd swap on a Ranger... Good Luck...

im just figureing out the trans situation for now, for the front ive got a 96 cherokee d30 and yj wrangler leafs im gonna be running.

my current parking brake is 1st gear and for added saftey in my steep drive way a block of wood behind the tire..... lol so not a problem

Do I hear something?

In the distance, a faint whisper. If you listen closely, the words "2.3L turbo" can be heard.

I think a "higher power" is trying to pursuade you...

I guess Sluginxlt has no choice in the matter anymore.

Priorities
1. Swap trans
2. SAS
3. 2.3T

I don't think he does... I'm no turbo expert by any means (never even messed with them) but, I think it would be cool to see someone to a Twin Turbo set up, use a really small one that spools up almost instantly for low end torque, and a big that spools up at like 2500... Imagine what a wheeler that would be...
I don't even know if that's the way it works or not, haha

Well, don't underestimate the torque output of those little turbo motors. Some might say its not a good idea because you're turning large rubbers but with proper gearing and a turbo, that thing's going to to have the last laugh.

i dont know if youve seen the blazer in the movie but if you can get your hands on it check it out, a properly t/c 4x4 is def awesome!
from chuck norris in lone wolf mcquade: "supercharge this!!!"

maybe some day a turbo..... i was gonna do a 4.0 swap but im trying to stay on a budget, then i was gonna sell the ranger, but came across the 4wheel trans for the 2.3 and my brother has all the parts for the d30 sas but sold his ranger so now its all for my truck.
