When I stomp on it I only bring my 2.9 up to about 4,500 rpms before i shift, am I driving my bronco like a girl?? Dont have a stock tach but I do have an after market tach so im not to sure what the redline is.. How high do u guys rev ur 2.9's?

Thanks,
Syko

I've shifted at 6k+ many times. It feels like it wants to go even higher!
I have no idea what the redline is either. Aftermarket tach here too.
Normally I usually shift about 3k. Plenty of torque down low to shift early. Sometimes I drive between 1k and 2k when there's no hills. It has a very nice broad range :)

I think the rev limiter is somewhere around 6,250 - 6,500RPM.

The highest I'd shift my cammed 2.9L is about 5.5K. There wasn't much more pull after that, but I did use factory valve springs - so float could have been a factor. The engine can hit the RPMs, but the hp and torque drop off much sooner than 6K (it's not making anymore usable power).

I usually shift at 2500 normal driving. If im hammering it, shifting at 4500 gets me up to speed just as quickly as shifting at 5500 rpm so i use the 4500 as my shift point.

Maximum effort shift points of 5200 in 1st, and 5000 in 2nd & 3rd are as good as it gets for acceleration

Remember that the power peak of a 2.9 is 4600rpm.

My 86 redlines at 5500 rpm. Never gotten it that high though, never thought it was worth the gas or the clutch.

Shit.

My 1992 Auto shifts at 5k in Drive WOT.

If I shift it manually I can rev it a little past 6k. There is NO rev limiter though. After about 5500 though I can feel the power drop off lol.
