2.8 social group...

most trucks i work on that have the 2.8, are only waiting for it to die so they can swap a different engine into it, or i am swapping a different engine into it:dunno:

i know they can be built up a bit, enough to whoop my v8 street/offroad rangers ass, but that was a race truck and sure as hell wasnt cheap.

I'll join the group. All I need to do is click on the link and start a discussion right? I think the 2.8 is a great engine when it comes to bullet proof design. They seem to run forever.

Eric

i dont think anything with Siamese exaust ports is bulletproof by design, but sure as hell workable.

i really dont think the 2.8 guys actually realized there is a group......should be a thundering heard of them now:icon_thumby:

Ill join.

My 2.8 B2 was my first car and has treated me well so far.

Joined it. I have no complaints about the 2.8, love it some much I painted it yellow (and show it what 5000rpm is once in a while).

Ya didnt know about the group.

I didn't know there was a group either, although I probably won't join since my 2.8 driving days are numbered.

As soon as winter breaks I have a nice shiny 302 to drop in. No ill fealings against the 2.8 though, it has served me very well over the last 10 years.

They are a very tough engine IMO.

Is it safe to push these little engines to 5-6k rpms?

yeah ive had mine doing 7k before, not for long tho. I thought this was a 2.8l social group. Whats the difference? BTW most people are waiting for there 2.8 to doe but they never really seem to die, that's why there are so many people waiting. just my two cents.

Not saying they wouldn't take it, but I wouldn't do it on a regular basis.

Ahh, just curious. I see people all the time say that the 2.8 is a high revving engine.

Anyone know where i can find a electric choke for a Motorcraft 2100 carb?

I put a manual choke on mine, got it from advance autoparts, works great and one less electronic device I have to worry about. Just need to find out which screw on the choke linkage allows for high idle to occur when I pull the choke out all the way so I dont have to sit in it and keep my foot on the gas to warm it up. It use to work then suddenly stopped and havent had time to look at it.

As for high rpms, mine was seeing 5-6k tonight, having fun in the snow.

I cant seem to get the dumb manual chokes to work. Can you take pics of your setup for me? My fast idle works, but i have an electric choke from a 2150 on it to keep it open ( which makes it take for ever to warm up at all)

Most of our snow melted all the way so no fun for me to be had in it :(

What cant you get on the manual choke to work? Its one of the HELP kits, comes with full instructions and everything. Only thing I had to do was make a bracket for the cable to hook to before it attached to th carb.

I cant seem to get it to open the choke back up, maybe i am doing it wrong or something.
