2.8 engine wiring HELP Duraspark II

Hi guys, new here. Just bought an 84 Ranger. Runs rough (no surprise) and the wiring is a mess. Does anyone have a clear engine wiring diagram? Or photos of their engine bay? I’ve read the conversions sticky, but can’t see the red/ white wire plug. Thanks! Will be using all new parts and (hopefully) making a reliable DD

Oh, my. That wiring is a mess. At the top of the page is a link labeled "How To Tech". Follow that and then click on the link for electrical diagrams. That should get you the vast majority of what you need.

I would also recommend:

1. Clean up your battery connections. Disconnect the clamps, clean clamps and battery terminals with a toothbrush and a solution of baking soda and water. Then rinse well to remove the baking soda residue. Bad connections cause trouble and make troubleshooting very difficult. Sometimes that mess you see there makes it's way into the cable inside the clamp and then the cable needs to be replaced.

2. Pay attention to ground connections. Many electrical issues people ask about end up being loose, missing or poorly connected ground connections.

Also minimize the number of splices or connections in a wire. Fewer splices or connections = fewer places for trouble to appear.
