I was told that the 2.5 liter motor has twin cams and a timing chain vs.the 2.3 having a timing belt.My question is, is the 2.5 motor a more complexe engine to work on than the 2.3L.And is there any major problems to lookout for in the 2.5L motor.

I can't remember for sure but the 2.5, in general terms, was a stroked 2.3 SOHC. The newer 2.3s are DOHC. Look in the tech articles and you should find more info. I was too lazy to.

The old 2.3s are SOHC timing belt engines. In 1998, Ford took the same engine and stroked it out to 2.5 liters. It is otherwise the exact same engine. In mid-year 2001, they came out with an all new 2.3 which is DOHC and has a timing chain. They are all reliable and long lasting engines.

The 2.5 is pretty similar to the 2.3 in terms of workability. It's actually a bit more reliable than the 2.3 since timings chains don't tend to break the same way belts do.

The 2.5 doesn't have a timing chain....:icon_confused:

Sorry, wrong 2.5L. I'm thinking of the newer one.

Ford needs to stop reusing sizes.

I wouldn't attempt to find a 2.5 over a 2.3... It's not a significant increase in hp... Either one is still slow...

slow my ass, my 2.5 will run 102.

And??? I've done 150+ in my Camaro, but it's slower than another car... The 2.3L and 2.5L will both be slower than the 4.0L I didn't say it was a bad thing I just said the 2.5 wasn't a big enough difference to hold out for just that engine...

its a good increase in torque adn its deff faster than the 2.3

:agree: ive done it

It's not even enough to tell on the butt dyno (I know, I've owned both at the same time)... It's definitely not enough to relegate all 2.3's to the trash and look for only a 2.5...

actually no, they won't be slower than a 4.0

all rangers are electronically governed, they all shut down at the exact same speed.

the Duratec 2.3 has about the same power as the 3.0. But the 3.0 has about 25 ft lbs tq over the 2.3.

actually from 01+ they have a lower top speed. from 100 they dropped to 90.
idk if they went back to 100 but seems like no.
