1993 Splash in SC

The two Rural King stores in my area still sell hardware by the pound.

I usually buy all of our coffee... canning supplies... dog food and stuff... clothes... even the last two firearms.

Love Rural King...

Almost finished the frame today. Ran out of metal tubing.

The top cross piece of the roll bar will be right above the third brake light/cargo light.

Are you going to build a headache rack into the roll bar?

Yup....you may as well make pin re-locaters and buy some 2wd HD 150 springs.

One and the same

You may want to put some type of insulator between the two frames. Any frame twisting and they will start to squeak over time.

No. Bushing squeeks....moving or loose parts squeek....

Shackle hangers and the body mount outrigger... frame k members that are securely fastened....don't squeek.

The decking can squeek if left to float....and that's what I do.

There were insulators between the frame and the original cross members that were not bolted. They were in bad shape and I scraped them off. I will only have 1 crossmember NOT bolted to the truck. That one has a small gap and I think I will leave the gap open.

As Bobby mentioned, most of your squeaks come from bushings and loose parts. This truck has squeaks. It has been singing it's song to me for years. For my new spring and shackle bushings, I ordered greasable bolts. In fact, just a few minutes ago, I finished cross-drilling the sleeves so that, hopefully, I can force the grease from the bolts out to the actual bushings. Hoping to keep them somewhat quiet. But more importantly, make them last longer and flex better.

I'll keep that idea in mind. I had even looked at some EB rear leaf springs on Bronco Graveyard website. That's a whole new spring research project for another day and a replenished bank account.

My problem is a mental one. I like to do the research and try to figure out the right part to get, the first time around. And springs are difficult to get data on. I've just started getting my head wrapped around coil spring data for the front. That's a more urgent need. I'm hoping that the new bed, combined with how I will be using the truck, will still be on the loadvrange for these Skyjacker springs. So the adjustable shackles should do what I need, at least for a while.

Rainy day here, today. Did a few odd "preparation" type projects. Put a 45 degree bevel on the recovery shackle mounts so they are ready to be welded to my new bumper when I make it. Cross-drilled holes in the sleeves for my new leaf spring bushings so the greasadle bolts can lube the bushings and not just the inside of the sleeves. Then I went to the junk yard (yes, in the bone-chilling rain) and got the mating pieces for the tailgate latches and grabbed a tail light harness so I could use the OEM connector when I make the harness for the new bed. I was hoping g to get the whole harness intact and hopefully just install new connectors for my lights. But, without removing bumper or bed, that harness is nearly impossible to remove. Plus, the ones I found were hacked up for trailer wiring, which is a shame. Because on the one I got, the OEM trailer wiring pigtail plug was right there with a cover on it, ready to use. (Sad)

There it is. Trailer pigtail connector. Just inches from a wad of insulation displacement connectors from someone's hack job.

Did a little more today. Went to the metal supply house and threw all my money at them. Finished the roll bar and front cross bar, sort of. It was breezy, which isn't good for MIG welding. I got tired of being all set up for a weld, then having to wait for the wind to stop. So I switched to other things. Installed the tailgate latches. Then made the fuel filler hose tunnel. So that's ready to weld in later.

You have lots of energy... would you fly out west to finish my bumper. LOL

It's going to be a sweet setup when you're done.

So pumped to see this all done.

What are you going to paint it with?

I'm relatively sure your inspiring me to build a flatbed for my squarebody 😈

Haven't quite decided on paint yet. Leaning towards Rustoleum bed liner.

I think there are better options then Rustoleum.

I'd like to see a good side profile of the entire truck with the flatbed.
