1990 XLT 4x4 2.9 manual transmission extra cab parts/project truck value

I found a somewhat local Ranger I'm considering as a parts truck or maybe to fix it up. I haven't seen it in person. It's an extra cab, which I prefer. 158,000 miles. Not running or driving. Has some new parts not installed. No bed or tailgate, which is odd to me. Has a redneck vibe, which to me usually screams abuse. The guy is asking $2000. I don't see any real body damage or rust.

What are 4x4 2nd gen Rangers usually worth is basic good running and driving condition?

Any way to gauge the condition of the drivetrain, other than draining the fluids out in a clean drain pan and see what's in the drippings?

The Transfer case is new to me because it's a chain drive vs gears?

I'm with Petroleumjunkie on the price. No bed and it doesn't appear to be running. If that is the case, one has to factor in the fact that you are going to have to trailer or tow it. Unless you have your own equipment to do that, it isn't going to be cheap.

I've been lucky in bribing the AAA drivers to tow my junk at times lol

It's definitely not running and parts are off like the master cylinder. I'm just trying to figure out if it might be worth getting for the 5 speed manual conversion parts.

Looking at some of the parts, assuming they're good, what are they worth?

2.9 engine complete ( spare to rebuild )

5 speed manual & shifter

T case & shifter

Drive shafts

Axles front and rear ( spare front & matching ratio rear )

Pedal assembly

Rust free extra cab unit. ( I eventually want an extra cab at minimum )

Rear slider

Frame ( spare and possibly donor sections for running a 7' bed with an extra cab )

FM146 is ok. Shifts nicer than my M5OD. Never had trouble with one, but heard they're a pain.

M5OD with 2.9 gears is cats whisker.

M5ODR1 is mid, but both of the ones I've had have a shit ton of miles and need bearings that im too lazy to put in. So I'm biased.

Comes down to rust and the condition of the engine and trans.

7.5 diff is a $50-75 item, same with a Dana 28.

Last parts truck I bought was a 2001 4.0 sohc with explorer limited rims. Paid $100.

And it had a cracked head.
