Truck is a 89 ranger 2.9L 4x4. My friend is a transmission mechanic(has been for most his life, so he knows what hes doing) and he rebuilt my broken transmission(mitsubishi) a few months ago. I had hired someone to install the rebuilt tran and get the truck running for me. The guy i hired got it installed and got the truck running.
The problem is it wont engage into any gear, When i push in clutch and shift into 1st(or any gear) nothing happens but the trans makes a soft clicking/grinding sound. When it sits idling I can move the shifter freely in and out of any gear, and that does no effect, just continues to idle. I know that aint right.
I bleed the clutch for about a hour, untill i thought i had got rid of all air bubbles. Maybe that was not enough. ???
Also the hired mechanic filled tranny with auto tran fluid. I drained that and refilled with gear oil. And still no luck.
Does anyone know what i could try to get this truck driving again.?

thanks 4 advice. So u think this is a trans problem and not a clutch issue? My thoughts have been mainly about the clutch, due to the fact that the transmission was just rebuilt. How can the input shaft get broken? Installed wrong, or slip out of place? I dont know a lot about this so i really appreciate any help/advice given. Thank You

BTW the m5od which i'm fairly sure you have needs a certain kinda of ATF NOT gear oil.

The 89 4WD Ranger manual had the Mitsubishi transmission and does require gear lube not auto trans fluid.
