I'm considering doing a dumb pointless swap in the future. Talk me out of it lol

What Mazda 2.5? Their is one that's the same as the Duratec 2.3, which later became the EcoBoost. Either of those should physically fit OK except maybe oil pan clearing with the TTB/TIB. The 2.3 Duratec was stock after what 01?
the same one that's in Fusions.
the 2.3 Duratec expanded to 2.5 for some applications. also has a huge internal balance assembly in the oil pan.
bigger intake ports, requires a matching manifold.
and cam phasers.

If you really want to do a dumb, pointless swap, then you could consider a 350ci Oldsmobile diesel.

Or maybe the old International "half a V8" four cylinder.

Or like those guys on youtube that stick predator motors in everything

Ooohhhh...

I forget who made it.. it was either Buick or olds.. either way... They made an all aluminum 3.5L turbo V8 way back in the 50s. Murcas first all aluminum motor, first production turbo motor, and I believe the smallest displacement V8.. super cool. Lots of want.

*Edit the motor began life in 61.. and was actually the WORLDS first production turbo motor.

I read the title and was on my way to tell you we love “dumb pointless engine swaps” here… until you said 2.9L
The 2.9L’s a great idea, all the power of a 4 cylinder with the fuel economy of a V8. It’s the worst of both worlds.
The only 2 reasons I would swap a 2.9L into anything ( other than a dumpster) are:
1- I own an antifreeze company and have an unlimited supply for when the head gaskets fail.
2- I have a blown up 2.9 engine and a spare sitting there on Friday, and I need to get to work on Monday.

Ooohhhh...

It came out in the very early 60's in Buick's and Olds' small cars. It was actually a Buick engine and most didn't get turbos. GM gave up on them because of oil leaks and sold the design to Rover, being English, Rover was used to oil leaks. I've seen a couple of them in VW based dune buggies with Rube Goldberg cooling systems.

I immediately thought of their odd fire V6 from the same era. Those are cool little engines, my buddy has a Jeep CJ6 with one in it.
