My 1999 has the 4.0L and 4x4...only problem I've had with it is the vacuum operated hubs stunk so I converted them to manual.Same applies with 4.0's & 4WD, lol.

Oh ok...I read the 2.9L has 140HP, the 4.0L has 160HP....not much difference considering weight. My 4.0L will move but it is still sluggish compared to a full-sized truck..another 60HP would help it a lot.I meant that the majority of Ranger's with 4X4 also had the 4.0L. the 3.0L 4x4's aren't too bad with manual, the 3.0L also isn't too bad with auto and 2WD, it's the 3.0L/4X4/Automatic combo that sucks the most! 2.9's had more balls than the 3.0.
