1989 B2 2.9L starter issues

If you take off the plastic on the steering column, it will be on the underside, below the lock cylinder.

There is also a neutral start safety switch that may be your problem--the intent is to make sure the clutch pedal is depressed before the starter will engage. I'd bypass that (as a test) before replacing the ignition switch. If you do a search on here for nss bypass, you should find instructions.

Thank you AndyB. Tomorrow I plan on install the switch once I get home from work. If that doesn't work I'm going to go a head and research a nss bypass. The only other thing that comes to mind is there a sensor on the clutch letting the engine know it's pressed? And could it be messed up stopping the engine from turning?

AndyB. I guess I should have said it earlier, but I have a manual. The NSS seems to be for an auto. I'll have to look for the clutch pedal position switch? and replace it? Or bypass it. I don't know. Hopefully I can avoid it and the ignition switch works

Yep, same concept, different terms. When you're under the dash, you can push in the clutch pedal with your hand and see the plunger for the safety switch move.

AndyB. I couldn't find a forum in bypassing CPPS. I saw plenty for NSS. Would you know how or should I go ahead and find the switch somewhere?

I've never bypassed it. I'd guess you could unplug the connection and close the circuit with a jumper wire as a test.

To be honest.... they guy at AutoZone laughed at me for replacing so much. He said installing a remote starter would have saved me a lot of trouble..... your thoughts? Since mine is a manual I don't have a NSS switch correct? The only thing left is the CPPS, bad wire somewhere and if I have a NSS.

I think it's good he's working the parts counter at auto zone and not working as a mechanic. I would have spent more time troubleshooting before replacing parts.

After I replace ignition switch I forgot to re-hook up battery wire. (No wonder It wouldn't start when I tried lol) So thank you for pointing me in the ignition switch direction.
