^ +1 to what tomw said...there are 4 screws holding the pod in place...same as the newer ones. star head (Phillips head)...
You might want to undo the speedo hold down located by the steering shaft as this will allow you a bit more freedom...just pull back the carpet and padding and you will find it near the top of the floor pans where it meets the firewall.
To remove the speedo cable more you can just undo it from the transmission...one 8mm bolt holds it in place...just be careful with the free end to not get it dirty or mash it against something...
