Ok, so I took on a project to resurrect an 87 Ranger. I have an 88 Ranger to pull from. 88 is an automatic and the 87 is a manual. There was no engine in the 87 and when I went to put the engine from the 88 in it, the engine harness is not the same. Oh Crap moment. Looks like basically I'm missing the wires for the injectors. Wtf can I do now? Is this conversion completely not going to work or does someone have a harness or a solution for me?

Did I forget to mention this is a customer vehicle and I have 12 hours into pulling the engine, doing all the gaskets on it and installing the flywheel and clutch and getting the engine in and all bolted up? And already modified the exhaust and welded pipes and everything to make this work? Ugh.....

I have done that swap before. There were two plugs in particular that come to mind as needing attention, the fuel pump and the body harness, with all the lights and what not.

The injector sub-harness should still be on the engine you installed and the stuff that it plugs into on the main harness side should be integrated. If you could add pictures of your situation that would be helpful.

It's the 2 plugs to the injector harness that don't work. No old engine to go by. I'll get pics in morning. I got like 2-8 pin connectors on the engine and like a 4 prong one in the truck to meet it. I did notice my engine harness had all the plugs for MAP and IAC and couple other things, where as the 87 has those plugs separate. If that makes sense.

I just realized. Is the 87 ranger even fuel injected? That why it's missing injector harness? Because I'm not finding anywhere that an injector harness would even hook up. I've got the MAP wire, temp plug, IAC, O2, and what appears to be intake temp plug? And no other plugs.

Uhm, what engine are you working on? Is it the 2.9l? We might have more accurate answers if you'll tell us that.

The only carb engine in 87 was the 2.0, so if that truck had a 2.0 it would be carb, but then it shouldn't have plugs for MAP, TPS, IAC and O2. The 2.3 was fuel injected in 87, and it would have all those sensors, but its harness wouldn't be plug and play to a 2.9.

You said you have the donor truck to pull parts from, have you considered just using the harness from the 88? You already know it will hook up to the engine.

The 88 harness will hook up if I take the computer but as someone said its got some other figment issues. The plugs on the drivers side next to the coil that go into the fuse block I'm assuming do not match up.

You're right. It had to be fuel injected with all the different connections for the different sensors. But I am obviously missing what would appear to me as the injector harness. So unless I can see what the injector harness looks like on an 87 and or get a donor, I'm probably screwed. Not sure what the next step will be.

did ya find what u needed? I have a harness from an 88 with 2.9 auto trans. plus all the stuff to swap it to a 5 spd. well except for the trans, it was busted.
