it is a ttb....it is wider...you need to cut it down...but i remeber a guy offering a lift kit to just bolt that front end in

You don't need to cut it down at all (infact cutting it down removes most of any benefits you'd get from it, being it's strength is hardly better than the D35).

'87 is the one year that has a much less-than-desirable hub setup on it though. You'll want to swap the hubs to something from either side of that year ('80-'86, '88-'96)

so does it just bolt right up or anywhere near to bolting up? and this may be a stupid question but how to you go abouts lifting the truck afterwards?

The axle CAN be bolted into your (RBV) pivot brackets, but there is a small difference in width between the brackets on the two trucks.
Ideally you'd want to lengthen the D44 beams 1" at each pivot, but you could also drill a new hole in the brackets 1" inboard (if there's enough material to do so), or you could trim the passengerside axleshaft(s) down a total of 1-2", and run it as is.

Some fabrication will be needed to mount the coils up and the radius arms however, being that the axle is wider.
