Hi I have a 87 with the 2.3L single plug 71,000 mi. Can anyone tell me where the fuel pressure test valve is located? I've looked on the fuel rail and cant seem to find one. my truck is down on power and I suspect it has low fuel pressure. it is gives me a code 41 HEGO circuit indicates lean. When you are driving, it seems to bog down when you hit the gas and it very subtly lurches. idle is a little slow too. Any help would be appreciated.

If it is like the original design for EFI, it is mounted to the fuel rail, rearward of the upper intake manifold. There should be a black plastic cap over the Schrader valve fitting. Remove that, and potentially a white plastic clip of some kind(factory install stuff) and the valve should be accessible.
If you remove the vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm, the fuel pressure should bump up. You should not smell fuel at the diaphragm vacuum connection, and if you do, a ruptured diaphragm is likely, making replacement necessary.
I would check the delivered volume of fuel with the engine running at idle. You should get a full flow from the bypass on the gauge.

UPDATE: I believe I have fixed the issue however I haven't put a ton of miles on it yet. The problem was a bad ground. The entire truck was experiencing voltage drop when everything came up to operating temperature. I replaced the negative battery cable and the factory chassis ground. I also added an extra body ground. so far so good.
