Ok guys,
My adventurous 16yr old son is dead set on putting a 302 in my old daily driver '91 4.0 Super cab 4x4.
I have kinda warmed up to the idea...now that the motor, tranny, and transfer case are sitting on the garage floor.
We also have a solid used 302, and a '97 M5R2 sitting beside them.
Now the transfer case issue...
Would you guys use an adapter to remount our original E-shifted 1354 or I can get a 1356 for $100?
Then the drive shafts...either way I guess they have to be chopped?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Also, the stock 4.0 radiator looks really anemic beside the original F150 radiator... does everyone really use the 4.0 radiator?
this is his first truck...daily driver, maybe a little muddin.

Thanks,
Ernie

I was thinking the original 1354 would allow the speedo, electric shift and original U-joints to work?
If we use a 1356, is it plug and play...or do I need to re-wire the plug on the shifter motor?
Thanks,

Thanks,

id use the 1354's shift motor on the 1356, this way is plug and play, no re-wiring required.

Good Idea,
I didn't know if the Ranger shift motor would 'fit' the 1356E transfer case.
Now I assume it does...now what about the speedo?
Thanks,
ernie

Original speedometer fits in the 1356 too.

Thanks Stangman.
Now, I just have to figure out the driveshafts.

I would specifically use a 13-56 out of a full size Bronco.

Why you ask? because the Bronco version of the 13-56 T-case has a flat flange rear output like the 13-54.

The F-150 version of the T-case is a slip yoke output I have issues with the
idea of the T-case housing being a "wear item" (the bronze bushing) rather than a replaceable bearing
