08' FX4 LED tail light retrofit w/ trailer parts!

To each their own i supose. just dont expect a cluster bulb to look like a factory type led bar or strip type led's like on the high end cars. it will look like a bunch of little bulbs stuck in the center. But hell its definitly easier than what i did and a bit cheaper:beer:

thats the thing i like your idea i just can't afford to start hacking up my tail lights and i know its not going to look like high end cars or even yours but it will be different.

wow that looks really cool never thought of this one i like that alot gives me ideas for my gen2

same, i have been toying with this idea for a while for my gen 2, but have not decided whether to modify OEM style, or just make an aluminum blackout plate with flush mount LED lamps...
Nice to see someone do it with OEM to get an idea of what it looks like.

PS: Looks awesome, but what about its functionality as rear marker lamp as seen from the side of the vehicle?

The LED's contain there own reflectors as part of the plate. They look the same as they would from the side of say looking at a boat trailer like they belong on. I have a pretty good view angle to both sides top and bottom. as good as with a bulb. Since there recessed into the rear of the reflector they also get alittle "scattering" of light going on from the factory lense and it looks pretty good. i'll get a side shot up.

is there anyway to make things easy if i did this mod, could i just wire it into my trailer light plug in? i never pull trailers so it wouldnt matter, i just dont wanna cut and hack my factory wiring harness, i would pull the bulbs out of the tail light harness on my truck and just run the LED clusters to my trailer light connector.... is this a good idea??? what do u guys think.

Yes that could be done, or you could simply use T taps in your factory harness to run the led's and just tuck the bulbs and carriers away.
