07 engine removal confusion...

This vacuum ball was tucked up behind the oil filter and was just hanging. First question is what is it?? second is where the hell does it go???
Thanks!
Fred
At this point I have to connect the exhaust system to the manifold and run the wiring harness.

That's a vacuum reservoir for the HVAC system.

I believe it goes on the passenger fender well. Near the blower motor.

One side to manifold vacuum... the other side goes into the dash HVAC controls.

I can maybe get a picture of my 06 a bit later. Not enough coffee and it's raining.

Understood!! never enough coffee..
I am going to head out and see if I can find where it mounts. Im hoping the bolts were put back in where it mounts. I will let you know how I make out.
Thanks!!

It really doesn't matter where you mount it. Just keep it away from extreme heat. On my 96 Explorer, it was under the unner fender un the front passenger side corner of the engine bay. In my 93 Ranger, foe tje past few months, I just had it lying on top of the heater blower box, not even scrwed down.
