Quick question guys.

If I use a 2wd trans out of an Expo using an Expo rear axle, do I need a custom made drive shaft?

The Explorer shaft won't fit because of the wheelbase difference. If you got lucky, the 2WD Ranger shaft MIGHT fit but, with the combination of all the non-Ranger parts, it's not that likely.

Well mine is already 2wd and is staying that way. Is this one of those 'wait and see' things? Basically wait until I got the trans and motor in and then measure from the output of the trans to the rear axle connection.

That about sums it up .... unless you can find someone who has done the equivalent swap.

When measuring your truck, do it with weight on the suspension so it's at the planned ride height. Then make sure that the sliding slip yoke position roughly mimics that of a stock 2WD Edge.

I don't think they made a 2wd V8 Explorer. If they did there are not enough of them out there to count on as a parts supply.

They sure did.

That is interesting, all that I have ever seen are AWD. :icon_confused:

I guess 2wd F-150's would have also had a 2wd 4R70W though.

The closest build I can think of using the 4x2 Exploder trans and the rear end is the one that Dasfinc has done. His is a later single cab short box and dropped. Remember he had one tough time finding one up this part of the country. Down South there are a lot more of them. Think there were a lot of cars that used the 4R70W.

I just ordered some Hedmann Hedders for the swap so it will breathe better.

Tell me you didn't order them! They don't work in the later Rangers, only the Explorer manifolds, the disconued FRPP ones and the Torque Monster headers. Some guy over on RPS said he made a set of Pypes Mustang headers fit but he had to raise the motor almost two inches and then use a couple of u-joint to get around the steering shaft. I saved the pictures if you want them. Not a good design at all the way he did the mounts. Shoot me a PM if you want, got all kinds of different picture of the late Rangers and headers/problems.
Dave of the Nord!

What is the issue and could you post some pics?
